Found this tonight.
Apparently a few of my uncle's friends wrote to him when his father passed away in June. I found my uncle's reply to them, and thought it was worth sharing. Here it is, below the cut.
I want to take this opportunity to thank you for being so kind to my family and me on the occurrence of my Father’s death. Those who were not fortunate enough to meet him might say that he was just an ordinary man, but I assure you he was anything but ordinary. In his life he lived through the great depression, found his bride of 65 years, raised a family, and back in the 40s he and his friends absolutely saved the world. Even through all that, he made time to show his children how to make a boo-boo “all better.” It is my sincere wish that your Father was just as ordinary as mine.
Again... my thanks,
Johnny B.
