people will realize that "teasing" that isn't funny or appreciated generally comes off as insulting or attacking, and they'll apologize for the accident just like one apologizes for stepping on toes.

Not "well, I obviously meant to walk by you and do something funny, laugh it off" while you're trying not to swear.
