If you were raising a child in a family where no one else had the same genetic heritage, would you pay special attention to any particular issues about race or appearance, or would you do anything that you wouldn't necessarily think of doing if your child looked similar to you?

To be specific, by "genetic heritage" I mean a child who obviously isn't the same ethnic or racial group as the people they live with-- not necessarily adopted, but for instance a biracial child who takes after one parent and lives with the other.

I'm not going to lock this post, so just let me say that our Ravenlet is genetically not as white as the people she lives with, although she doesn't entirely look it (ETA: Her dad and I are white, but her mom, who doesn't live here, is black). I just don't want her to feel weird about being different.

(Feel free to answer even if you weren't raised in a different family and don't have or want kids of your own, too. Wild ideas welcome.)
