So, one of the boards I read had a thread a while back with a story that still haunts me.

Seems this guy was helping his dad move out of his house into a retirement center (one of the places that has apartments but has people who check on you and make sure you're okay, pretty much) and thus they were cleaning out his parents' house.

His dad said, "You kids just take anything you want to take," and after opening a closet and finding it stuffed to the top with toilet paper, this guy jokingly said "I'll take all the toilet paper!" His dad looked relieved and nodded, and he thought nothing of it.

So, the excavation of the house began, and he came back to the closet. After removing toilet paper for a few minutes, he began to wonder just how big the closet was. He continued to take out bags and bags full of four-packs and eight-packs of tissue, taking them out of the house, and going deeper and deeper into the closet.

At the back of the closet was a door. He got the door cleared and opened it, to see ANOTHER wall of toilet paper. He began clearing out, finding toilet paper in old paper packaging that had gotten wet and ruined, packaging that hadn't been used for years. Even decades. As he cleared out, he found a window, and realized that the "closet" was actually a hallway, and there was a SPARE BEDROOM to the house that had been COMPLETELY FILLED with toilet paper. At the back of the bedroom was-- another door, which he opened to find MORE TOILET PAPER.

Fortunately for the end of this story, the final door was a closet of normal size and after emptying out a couple of cases, the closet, bedroom, and hallway were empty.

From what the guy could figure out, his dad and mom had just gotten into the habit of ALWAYS picking up a four-pack of tissue at the store, even if they went a few times a week, and had never thought about stopping and using up what they had.

So, those of you who still have your parents, what are you going to discover in the far future days when you're cleaning out their house? What are people going to catch YOU hoarding when that day comes for you?

(Furniture and yarn or fabric, respectively, I think...)
