It's warm enough that I wore a long-sleeved shirt to work and was a bit warm on the drive here.
And it's thundering in the distance, with lightning and a soft, whispering rain.
I have from 7AM today until 830PM Friday off work*, during which time I have no obligations whatsoever except depositing my paycheck and getting an estimate on my brakes.
And sleep. I plan on lots of it. Maybe I can actually get caught up, for a while.
*As a somewhat-bitter side note, I would like to point out the following:
"Two-day weekend" on my shift:
Wednesday 7:30am - Friday 8:30pm = 16.5 hours (Wed) + 24 (Thu) + 20.5 = 61 hours
"Three-day weekend" (doable only by trading one day of my two-day weekend):
Tuesday 7am- Friday 8:30pm = 17 hours + 48 + 20.5 = 85.5 hours
The most time off I've had other than my week's vacation, when my grandmother died:
Monday 9am - Friday 8:30pm = 15 + 72 + 20.5 = 107.5 hours
Standard work weekend, i.e. weekends that don't include a holiday:
Friday 6PM - Monday 9AM = 6 hours (Fri) + 48 (Sat/Sun) + 9 = 63 hours
Standard three-day weekend, which for most people is weekends that include a holiday, generally New Year's, MLK Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Christmas Eve, or Christmas Day:
Friday 6PM - Tuesday 9AM = 6 + 72 + 9 = 87 hours
Four-day holiday weekend (e.g. Thanksgiving, or any holiday that falls on Tues or Thu)
Wednesday 6PM - Monday 9AM = 6 + 96 + 9 = 111 hours
The next person who EVER, for ANY reason, tells me how lovely it must be to get "four days off in the middle of the week" is going to be told exactly where to put it, and "where the sun don't shine" is NOT an option because when you're on night shift, the sun doesn't shine anywhere.
