So, the apartment inspection yesterday was-- SURPRISE PET inspection.
They were surprised to find so many pets. Specifically, they were surprised to find ours, since we weren't on the rent rolls as having paid a pet deposit. We got a dirty look and a "pay your pet deposit" speech. (At least, Raven did, I was asleep.)
So, I toddled over to the office today and we went through the file-- I moved to this apartment back in 2000, and waaaay back in the back was a sheet showing what I'd paid when I moved in: $150 security deposit (for the people) and $200 non-refundable pet fee, which is what they did at the time instead of a deposit.
So, I now have my own special comment on the rent roll that even though I don't have money in escrow for the kitties, I paid a one-time fee and they are allowed to rampage reasonably throughout the house.
All squared away, no money involved, 20 minutes of my time including petting the office Yorkie while they took phone calls.
