On filtering.
Apr. 9th, 2006 05:24 amSo, I was thinking about setting up a separate filter for sex and gender and kink and stuff-- bodies and minds, and the interface between the two. And I thought to myself, Self, this is silly.
Setting up a filter provides for four separate categories:
1. People who want to be in the filter, and are;
2. People who don't want to be in the filter, and aren't;
3. People who want to be in the filter, and aren't;
4. People who don't want to be in the filter, and are.
Of course, the first two categories are fine; but the third and fourth pose a good problem. Category 3 allows nothing but requesting that I add them to the filter, which I have to do manually-- category 4 allows either requesting they be removed, or not reading my LJ at all by removing themselves.
Frankly, the reason I want to post about this sort of thing is that I think, in some ways, my world is the world viewed in the reflection of a puddle-- and in other ways, it's the view from sticking your head into that puddle. I don't want to trap people into, or out of, reading it. So, rather than a filter-- I created a community. Feel free to use it if you've got something to say about being caught between the horns of a dilemma:
