Items in random order:

a) Anonymous comments are, as always, allowed. I don't log IP addresses, so if you comment anonymously, I won't have a clue who you are. You can say anything you want to, but I'd prefer it not be threats or name-calling.

b) Comments on this particular post are screened. If you find this a convenient place to say something to me, go right ahead, without fear that someone else will read it before I do. I'd prefer it not involve threats or name-calling, but criticism is certainly fair game.

c) I try my best to appropriately categorize my posts as follows:

Private posts-- These are for me only; even if you're on my innermost filter, if you're going through my posts one at a time you may get to posts you can't see. They're usually notes to myself of some sort, or links, or cut and pasted things. Occasionally they're rough drafts of stuff, or posts that I wrote and then didn't want to share.

Single-person-only filters-- I have a couple of these and I've used them once each. They don't seem terribly useful.

Work-filter posts-- These are posts involving the foibles of my various co-workers and anecdotes of things at work; while I do filter out enough information that you couldn't tell who the other people involved were, it's possible with enough of the work-filter posts to figure out who *I* am. The further away you are from me geographically, the easier it is to get added to my work-filter posts. I've tried, for the most part, to ask people before including them on this filter, because some of the posts are pretty heartbreaking and I don't want people to feel like they didn't know what was going to be posted there.

Friend posts-- These are posts that may tell or show a little bit more about me than I want the Internet At Large to know; maybe pictures of me, or personal info, or opinions that I'm not exactly ready to share with the whole world. My mental image of posting these is making statements from my living room, as opposed to standing on the lawn with a picket sign.

Public posts-- Usually the inconsequential things, or happy-but-not-personal events; a metric boatload of knitting posts, unless it involves pictures of clothes on people. Things I wouldn't mind anyone, even a stranger, to know about me.

Mostly, I'm posting this so that people can say "you know, I'd really rather not be in these filters." You can say that. Seriously. Just don't say it anonymously, cause I won't know who you are.
