a) 100% humidity makes anything feel like utter sticky crap.

b) Regardless of that, note to self: iron-on interfacing comes in three thicknesses, and medium is probably not the appropriate one for small children's clothing.

c) Not a total loss, learned a bit about construction techniques, and will have a brilliant dress pattern involving 1" bias tape and elastic and a simple A-line dress very soonish.

I haven't done the hemming yet, but other than the interfacing issue-- which might work out in the wash-- it doesn't look terrible.

Details: Simplicity pattern 9854; 100% cotton, 1 yard, blue calico; interfacing; discarded printer paper from work plus a glue stick to attach the tissue pattern to, as seen here:

Also, I traced one of the interfacing pieces wrong in that picture, so don't be trusting my interpretation of the pattern. You have to use a pen to trace on interfacing, by the way, a pencil won't work.

You're supposed to do topstitching around the bodice to make it look pretty, and I haven't done that yet either. I think I need to cut a few more notches in the inside seams to try to take out a bit of the wrinkling, or just pretend it's a design feature:

Having to put on my reading glasses to thread the sewing machine makes me feel really encumbered by poor vision. Once those are on, it's fine, though.
