Budget for Christmas: $100
Total money spent: $108
Dear Smallchild's teacher:
Knowing that it's December and that you live in a really poor school district, do you think you might give people more than, say, ONE day's warning that the kids are having a holiday party? I realize you don't think drinks, snacks, cups, plates, and such are that expensive, but being asked to provide enough of something for 25 kids (when, dammit, half the stuff out there comes in 24-packs) is a real bitch on a tight budget. I picked up 5 boxes of brownies for 1.19 (6 each) and a big bag of plastic cups for $2, because my little girl likes to be able to say what she brought to the party, and that's what put me over budget. I'm glad I had it to spend, but I know a LOT of parents are on assistance and maybe *could* have picked up a box of cookies or something-- if they had known at the first of the month when they got their checks. Telling us on the 19th when we're trying to do holiday shopping?
