alfrecht: "Leave a comment and I'll give you a letter; then you have to list 10 things you like starting with that letter. Post them in your journal and give out new letters to your commenters in turn. NO TAGBACKS ALLOWED, unless a commenter specifically requests to be given a letter!"
He gave me the letter "S."
1. Silk. About 10 years ago, I used to have 3-4 silk shirts, and my most favorite was a cream-colored shirt that I'd tea-dyed, dark tan at the bottom and nearly-cream at the tim, in rough silk. It was gorgeous, barely ever wrinkled, and was cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Right now my most favorite undershirt is a black v-neck that I stole off
dda last time I was there; and I have a blue silk robe that I wear a lot, too.
2. Stealing clothes from boyfriends. It's true-- I've got clothes in my closet from probably 6 different guys. Jeans from
kiztent, the shirt from
dda, a shirt off
transmitte, the jean jacket from the ex before him who I hope I never see again (also took the guy's best stewpot, but I sent him back his computer and the rest of his possessions at my own expense, so hey). Not to mention all of
st0rmraven's shirts that I've nabbed, including the Atari one I like so much.
3. the subjunctive. If I were to go into detail on how much I liked to speak hypothetically, I'd be here all day.
( #4, which is probably NSFW )
5. Sugar. Iced tea just isn't drinkable without it. None of that fake stuff, I need the real thing in my tea. I can deal with Splenda in my soda, though.
6. Smith. I'm proud to be one, both because I've kept my name my entire life, and because I'm proud of my family. (Not that I'm related to a bunch of Smiths, of course.) I also love the joke:
Q. Do you know why there are so many Smiths in the phone book?
A. Because that's how many have phones.
7. Skirts. I have a love-hate relationship with them. I wouldn't like to be required to wear them, but I've made a few that I adored, including a heavy peach thick-woven rayon skirt that sounded like linen in the wind. I like my denim skirt with pocketses that I'm wearing now.
8. Scratch paper. I keep meaning to start notebooks and organize stuff, but half my drawings and patterns are written out on the backs of envelopes and pay stubs in pencil-- or highlighter.
9. superscripts. Everything's better with endnotes!
10. Stitch markers. (Did you really expect a top-10 list with nothing knitting on it?) Or, generally, any number of things that physically go somewhere to remind your fingers, so you don't have to think about it. I like making them, too, and bought a set of pliers for the express purpose.
