I found...THE CUTEST little soup bowls:
And I knit...holders!! Well, one, for now. It took all damn night to figure out.
Details:
Maroon yarn is Mission Falls, the ball of yarn I bought and used half of when I first started knitting. I used all but two or three pieces totalling under 18" to make this.
Red: KnitPicks Wool of the Andes
Orange (top color): Cascade Quattro
Process: CO 72 in red & join round, knit 3 rows 2x2 ribbing, continue in stockinette for about an inch, join in scrap yarn 7 stitches for afterthought handle.
Continue knitting for another 2" or so; place markers every 12 stitches (6 markers) and decrease once per marker every round til 6 stitches remain, bind off.
Remove the scrap yarn and put stitches on DPNs. Knit round, trying on as you go, until 1/2" from end of handle. Decrease for 2 rows and thread yarn through last few stitches, then weave in end.
Try on pot. Panic because it won't fit evenly. Pick up stitches on the top side of the red and knit a row of orange. Short-row 6 or 7 rows around the pot to even it out, knit 3-4 more rows, then bind off in knit and let the hem roll.
