We are the people who called for His condemnation and crucifixion on Friday.
We are the people who, afraid for ourselves, allowed others to do what we knew was wrong.
We are the people who made fun of what we didn't understand, taunting someone who was already facing terrible punishment.
If we fail to acknowledge our capacities to do terrible things, or our desires to take the easy way out, we don't stand a chance of mastering them.
We are also the people who, when Jesus stumbled and fell under the cross, picked it up for Him.
We are the people who became family with one another at His word.
We are the people who begged to bury Him, who gave our own tomb for His own, who watched through the night at it.
If we fail to acknowledge our capacities to do wonderful things, our desires to be generous with our gifts, to do our best even when it doesn't seem to make any difference at all-- we don't stand a chance of setting those things free.
And my usual Easter wish for you all-- may you find not what you expect, but your heart's desire!
