There's only one thing harder than taking your cat to the vet on that last trip.

And that's watching her struggle to eat because she's so hungry, but her mouth won't let her.

So... we're going to the vet in the morning.

In early 1995, I moved out of the dorms and into a duplex with my fiancé and his best friend. As soon as I had a yard, I determined it was time to get a cat. (The cat I grew up with had just passed on the year before.) I picked Chisa at the animal shelter and was told she was about 9 months old.

Chisa has lived with me through engagement, marriage, divorce, and quite a few changes of boyfriends; when I met the Raven, she adopted him as her person and has been his for a few years now. She was always a very formal kitty-- our usual response to her demanding meow was "Yes ma'am?" But she warmed up to Raven as if she'd been waiting for him her whole life.

We had her at the vet recently and we've known for a couple of weeks that she was nearing the end of her time; in the past few days, she's drastically lost weight and she seems very uncomfortable eating.

I'm sad for her that she hurts. But soon she won't be hurting anymore, and then I'll be sad for us.

Good night and good rest to the best of kitties.
