That is all.

ETA: Tag refers to "All Summer in a Day" by Ray Bradbury.

I have very little available time when I'm not a sleep-encrusted zombie. One of those times when I can actually socialize with my daywalker friends is holidays that fall on a weekday.

And amazingly, every single one of my friends that I've asked so far has plans that I can't possibly be included in. But mysteriously, "a holiday that falls on a weekday" is some kind of arcane Paschal-moon-calculation such that they can't predict what the next such holiday is, in order to ask me in advance to THAT one.

Hint: The next federal holiday that falls on a weekday is Labor Day, the first Monday in September. The one after that, for those businesses that observe it, is the Friday after Thanksgiving. Both Christmas and New Years are on a Sunday, meaning that most businesses will be closed the Monday following.

But it's ok, I know this, they know this, and it's pretty much that they don't get how absolutely RARE my coinciding days off are, so it never occurs to them to make plans with me.

[Especially when you don't have the standard schedule:] Holidays suck. Weekends suck.

Everyone says they don't have time during the week and I should know better than to ask (there's an invisible but felt addendum "you lazy-ass emeffer who doesn't have a fucking job"), but somehow whenever it's a weekend or a holiday which they tacitly promised to allocate by constantly pushing me off every single time I asked... then they suddenly have family obligations. And family trumps me.

I think they'd invite family they don't like just to be able to justify not having anything to do with me. Which means after it's happened, I just stop trying.
